There is a cycle lane on East Parade, Harrogate, which starts as a painted strip on the road, then goes onto the (badly surfaced) pavement. It gives way to a bin, then pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing. When it reaches the roundabout at the top of the road, it gives way to traffic, when crossing the road. To continue along North Park Rd, you have to dismount to cross the road, then join a painted contraflow lane a bit further up the road.

In effect, cyclists give way to both pedestrians and traffic, giving no continuity in the journey. They swap between road and pavement, and are supposed to ride along badly surfaced pavement. They are never given any protection from traffic, just paint. This 'infrastructure' is worse than just riding up the road.
